Dog Name: Janel
**** pics that are included show her enclosure. Please read entire post and look at pics. ********)
Breed: chihuahua
Sex: f
Age: 7-8
Weight: 7 lbs
Medical Needs: none
Housebroken: Before coming to the rescue, she was potty pad trained. That is still where we are. She was so shut down when she arrived that I have not forced a leash on her. Potty pads is going great. When she is in her crate, she does not have accidents and will wait for a pee pad to be available.
Crate trained: yes. She goes in and out of the crate with no issues.
Good in Car: the car ride to the foster was fine. In a crate. There have been no further trips anywhere thus far.
Good on leash: No. She has had little human contact before coming to the rescue. She is terrified of everything. Double leash recommended for escape purposes.
Energy Level: off.
Need a fenced in yard: unsure. Once she gets comfortable somewhere she may be able to be out in a yard. But we are not there yet. Not recommended that she be off a leash in a yard bc she will run from you.
Dog friendly: yes. She has tolerance for larger animals. Animals comparable to her size, not so much. She has not been friendly with current fosters resident dog. (Her size)
Cat friendly: Unknown
Kid friendly: NO LITTLE KIDS. She has survived a lot of neglect. Little kids are not recommended as she is scared. While she has not been exhibiting aggression, we are not willing to take a chance of her fear getting out of control.
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?
Janel was not given human contact at her last home. She was over bred and under loved. She has found her way to her current foster home. While thats great, she has been very leary of all humans. She had a shut down period that was much needed. Since arriving, she has been able to free feed with plenty of water. She is in an enclosure with her crate inside so she can feel secure. (See photo for understanding) She now will come in and out of her crate. She will retreat to the crate when she is scared. She has begun to take treats out of her fosters hand. She has been handled now, with care, but she doesn't like it. She isn't mean or aggressive but would rather be left alone. She is slowly coming to accept her force snuggles. Recently, she also barked when breakfast was late. This was a big deal! She is making small slow steps towards trusting her foster family. Its quiet there so she has been able to see that only gentle touches happen and there is always plenty of food. She does have a good appetite and loves her chew bones. She is older and sleeps a lot during the day. She has been fine with both men and women and teenagers. She has no medical problems we know of and is already fixed.
HER PERFECT FAMILY: we are looking for a quiet household with lots of patience. Someone who will allow her to come out of her shell on her own. It will take a while and she is very sweet, but very scared. When you live your whole life in distrust, this is the result. We need a very special person to love her at her pace.
