Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Niko – Your New Best Friend!
Hi, I’m Niko! I’m a 60-pound bully mix with a heart as big as my paws. Making friends is my specialty—I absolutely adore people and other dogs (cats, not so much, but hey, nobody’s perfect!).
Whether you’re looking for a walking buddy or a snuggle partner, I’ve got you covered. I’m as active or as chill as you need me to be. Long walks? Count me in (I’m great on a leash)! Couch cuddles? Say no more.
My foster family says I’m the best hugger they’ve ever met, and my big, goofy smiles make everyone’s day brighter. I’m potty-trained, and I’ve nailed commands like sit, stay, no, and potty outside. I also know my name really well and have amazing recall—even if a squirrel catches my eye, one call of my name and I’m right back at your side.
I’m a survivor with a story. I was rescued from Texas by a local doggy daycare/boarding facility and brought here to find my forever home. Since then, I’ve been recovering like a champ from being neutered and treated for heartworms. My foster mom has been sneaking me back to her house a bunch though (shhh!), where I’ve been spoiled with love, belly rubs, and lots of time with her three other dogs.
The vet staff adores me—they’ve even posted about me, and said I'm the “sweetest, silliest, most patient boy” and confessed they’re all a little in love with me (blushing!)
I’m a big fan of toys and can keep myself entertained for hours. While my foster mom works in her office, I’m perfectly content chewing on a bone or playing with my favorite toys by her side.
I love to play, especially with other bigger dogs I will probably do best with bigger dogs, because I am a moose 😂. Smaller animals, like cats, aren’t my vibe, so I’d do best in a home without them.
I’m looking for my forever family—one that will cherish my sweet, calming presence and appreciate my hugs and snuggles as much as my foster family does. They keep saying how special I am, and while they’d love to keep me, I know there’s a perfect family out there waiting just for me. Could it be you?
Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . More about this rescue
We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.
The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.
Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.
While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.
We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
