My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Spanky is a two-year-old, 45-pound lab mix taken from a hoarding situation, along with his mom, Lillie, who we also have in rescue. He is a timid and quiet dog but warms up once he knows he’s safe with you. There is nothing bad about being quiet. Who doesn't love that in a dog. He is in boarding and out with the other dogs in playgroups. He is clean in his kennel and is VERY sweet. If you want to foster or adopt Spanky, please go to www.atlantalabrescue.com and apply.

FROM THE FOSTER:  Spanky is a gentle soul. He gets along with other dogs and is a total snuggle-bug - with both people he knows and dogs. He is great on a leash, even likes to jog.  Spanky doesn't have a lot of worldly experience and is leery of new things and people, but at his foster's quickly got used to the vacuum and other house noises, but still timid with loud things like the tractor and leaf blower, or strangers in the house. He’s not aggressive, just anxious at first. Spanky would do best in a home without a lot of chaos, like empty nesters, a couple or single person. With consistency and time, he's already come a long way in just a few weeks.

Spanky is house trained, sleeps like a champ and can be left alone. He is learning how to 'sit'. Sadly, he still doesn't understand toys or balls but loves to run around in a fenced yard and go for walks.

More about this rescue

Atlanta Lab Rescue is an all volunteer, non-profit (501-c3) organization, whose volunteers have years of rescue experience. Our mission is to identify and rescue Labrador Retrievers and large breed mixes from overwhelmed shelters and abusive situations and place them in secure, loving homes. We average 30-40 dogs in the program at any given time and in our first 10 years, we have rescued over 3500 dogs.

Prior to an Atlanta Lab Rescue dog being adopted, each dog undergoes an extensive examination by our veterinarians, including a comprehensive blood profile, is updated on all vaccinations, spayed or neutered and micro chipped. Health issues that require additional treatment such as heartworms, surgery, etc, are addressed prior to adoption. In addition, each adoption includes free access to our Atlanta Lab Rescue trainer. At Atlanta Lab Rescue we firmly believe that a healthy, well trained dog is the key to the successful integration of a rescued dog and ensures a wonderful, loving companion for years to come.
