Have you ever wondered what Shrek would be like if he was a cat? Well, wonder no more: Bruce is Shrek in a cat-suit. He appears gruff and tough, but has a heart longing for love.

At some stage in Bruce’s life, he saw a side of humanity we wish no one ever saw. If his foster moves a hand sharply, he flinches - he crouches, bracing himself for a blow. Bruce is wary of humans and slow to trust. He was in his foster home for two weeks before he would let his kind human mum touch him at all, it was another week before he relaxed enough to play, and six weeks before he purred. Now, she can reach out and he will lean in for strokes. He’s a different cat!

Bruce likes cats better than humans. He loves to cuddle with his foster friends and would do best living with a cat who will accept him sprawling all over them. He is comfortable with the resident senior dog. A boisterous dog may bring out his inner-Shrek.

Bruce is wary rather than shy. He does not hide - he enjoys lounging on the couch. He does get worried about big-footed humans walking near him. He would prefer a quiet adult home with a cat friend.

While he’s not everyone’s cup of tea, Bruce is a diamond in the rough. He will make you earn his trust, bit by bit. That may sound like hard work, but it is also so rewarding! The first time I stroked him, the first time he played, the first purr were so heartwarming: life with Bruce is full of firsts.
