Meet Jewel (A212174)! Jewel is just two years young and looking for a loving home at the shelter.
Jewel is shy at first with people at first and takes time to open up and trust someone new. Once she feels comfortable, however, she is the sweetest little girl! Jewel loves to be petted and will show you by flopping on to her side, kneading, purring, and sometimes even drooling! Her sweet purr is second to none! Jewel also has a really fun playful side. She loves playing with her rattly toy mice and she likes to fling them all over her cage! Jewel has had a rough life and it's like she's making up for her lost kittenhood now that she is relaxed and happy and doesn't need to worry about her next meal.
Jewel had been living outdoors as a stray and befriended a truck driver who used to share his lunch with her. She would rub against his legs and follow him to his truck. He is the one who rescued her from the street and started her on her journey to a new loving home. Jewel has a birth defect of her left eye and is not visual in that eye. It does not cause her any discomfort and she can do just fine with her limited vision, but she needs an indoor only home for her safety. By the time Jewel came to our shelter she had three kittens in tow. They went to foster and the kittens have since found homes.
Jewel would thrive in a quieter home without young children or dogs, although every situation is different. We do not know how Jewel is with other cats, she lived around them outdoors, but she had to compete for food so it was not a good situation for her to make friends. With a gradual, slow introduction she could probably do well with another kitty. Jewel is a diamond in the rough, just waiting to be discovered by her person who will make her feel secure and loved for who she is - a jewel!
All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months). All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control.
