Nelson is a gentle two-year-old with a sleek black coat and soft green eyes that reflect the sadness he’s feeling. Since being surrendered, he has struggled to adjust. He eats very little unless is there to pet him. He is grieving the loss of his home and guardian, quietly spending his days lying in the same spot, too heartbroken to do much else. Nelson craves love and comfort, and he melts into your touch when you hold him or give him neck scratches. He’s not meant for shelter life, and he needs someone who can offer him the love and stability he’s missing so deeply.

The cats at Nelson’s previous home did not accept him, and he’s sad about that. So, he is now looking for his own space—somewhere where he can relax, blossom, be himself, and share his love.

AS OF JANUARY 2018:
Dogs: $100 - Includes Heartworm/Lyme/Ehrlichia Test, DHLPP and Rabies Vaccination, Dewormings, flea and tick treatment (if needed), and Spaying/Neutering.

Puppies (0-6 months): $150 - Includes 3 DHLPP Vaccinations, 3 Dewormings, a Certificate for a Rabies Vaccination, flea and tick treatment (if needed), and Spaying/Neutering by a participating veterinarian.

Cats: $40 (or 2 for $50) Includes Feline Leukemia/Aids test, 2 RCP Vaccinations, Rabies Vaccination, 2 Dewormings, flea and tick treatment (if needed), and Spaying/Neutering.

Kittens (0-6 Months): $80 (or 2 for $120) includes a Feline Leukemia/Aids test, 3 RCP Vaccinations, 3 Dewormings, Certificate for a Rabies Vaccination, flea and tick treatment (if needed), and Spaying/Neutering by a participating veterinarian.

More about this shelter

Located on Stagebridge Road (Rt. 624) and Rt. 29 just two miles north of Lovingston on 2 acres of Land.
Houses animals in "real-life rooms".
A Spacious lobby/waiting room and reception area.
13 rooms for dogs which will hold 2 to 3 dogs depending on size.
4 cat rooms for multiple numbers of cats.
Two isolation rooms, one for dogs and one for cats.
A room for bathing and grooming.
A food preparation area.
A conference/meeting room.
Inside and outside exercise areas for dogs.
Open seven days a week.
Animals being surrendered by their owners are accepted on a space available basis if they are judged to be adoptable. Animals are also selected from unclaimed or unwanted animals at the Nelson County Animal Control Facility after they are evaluated by the HS/SPCA and judged to be adoptable. Strays will continue to go through Animal Control.

No animal will be put down unless it is judged to be dangerously aggressive or untreatably ill. Almost Home Pet Adoption Center now has several part-time employees
but still relys heavily on volunteer help.
