My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kira was born on January 27, 2024. She is a beautiful Caucasian Shepherd. Kira is no little girl! She already weighs 85 pounds! She will most likely weigh over 100 pounds when fully grown.

Kira is showing typical behavior for her breed. She will alert you when people are coming. She takes her time to approach them. Kira is affectionate and playful. She has a great time playing with her rope toys outside. She is housebroken and just loves her crate. While Kira was at board and train, she was eCollar trained.

Kira has a medical condition known as Megaesophagus (Mega E). Mega E is an enlargement of the esophagus which interrupts the normal flow of food to the stomach. When Kira eats, she needs to be sitting up. Her foster has ordered a special chair for her called a Bailey chair. Kira will learn to get in and out of the chair, eat sitting up and will need to remain upright for 10 to 15 minutes after eating. Kira will need inexpensive medication for the rest of her life. The medication will help the food move down her esophagus and into her stomach.

Kira can run, play, and love on her people like any other dog. She just needs some extra TLC at feeding time.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The first step to adopt one of our dogs is to complete an adoption application. Once you have submitted your application, a volunteer with call your personal and veterinary references. Following references, SSR will send out a volunteer to conduct a home visit and meet any members of your household. We come to your home and further discuss the adoption process.

The adoption application will let us know a little bit about you, your home, your lifestyle and what you are looking for in a companion. Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to fill out our application to adopt one of our dogs. Your application will either be accepted or denied after the volunteer submits a home visit report.

ADOPTION FEES
There is a non-refundable application fee of $15.
Our adoption fee is $300 for dogs aged 6 and under.
Our adoption fee is $225 for dogs 7 and up.

Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue is an all-volunteer rescue focused primarily on the rescue of German Shepherds. We are based out of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, but expand our reach and work to save German Shepherds in heavily populated areas throughout the country. While our rescue is a new organization, our volunteers have been rescuing German Shepherds for many years. Our hope is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome every German Shepherd in need.
