Sandy ACCT-A-209189 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Sandy must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER, or ADOPTER by Tuesday, January 14th at 10 A.M. Should Sandy’s medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Sandy is a young, curious, and playful girl who is ready to find her forever home! Found as a stray on 12/16, Sandy is sweet and affectionate but has found herself in need of immediate placement due to no fault of her own. She’s timestamped because of her length of stay and the shelter’s lack of space, and she urgently needs a foster, adopter, or rescue partner to give her the chance she deserves.
Sandy is treat-motivated, eager to learn, and loves attention. She knows her “sit” command well and will happily sit for treats or put her head in your lap to beg for them. Her playful streak shines during toy time, and she loves to explore her surroundings with curious enthusiasm. While she can be a little snatchy with treats, using an open palm works best to keep her polite.
Sandy does best with structure and guidance. She’s an energetic girl who pulls on the leash when she’s excited but improves with redirection. She has shown some reactivity toward other dogs on walks and would thrive with a tolerant canine companion if she’s going to a home with another dog. However, she must not go to a home with cats due to her high prey drive.
Despite her initial shyness, Sandy quickly warms up and shows her loving side. She adores affection and will jump up with wide, eager eyes to demand pets. She has done well on outings, enjoying hikes, pup cups, and visits to pet stores.
This sweet, food-loving pup needs a patient and loving home where she can continue to grow, thrive, and shine. If you’re ready to help Sandy write her next chapter, she’s ready to meet you!

Behavior Notes:
Per staff 1/7/25: Very dominant during dog meets- some necking and mounting. If going home with a dog needs a tolerant dog.
Per staff 1/5/25: Took Sandy out for a walk. When I went to her crate she was alert barking with wide eyes and a mid level wagging tail. I called her a good girl and was giving her some pets through the bars to which she calmed down. She was easy to leash and pulled heavily to go outside. As soon as we got outside she went to the bathroom and loosened up on the leash. We walked around the yard, I gave her some pets and then brought her back in. She returned very well and went right in.
Per day trip 12/21: She is a very sweet dog. She did well in the car, although she did try to jump into the front seat. We went for a 2.5 mile hike in Wissahickon park. She is pretty good on the leash but does pull a bit when she gets excited. She doesn’t really respond to her name and intermittently refuses treats (maybe not high value enough). I was able to redirect her leash pulling by changing directions and she improved. She was very reactive with dogs we passed by on the trail. I gave her plenty of space and she didn’t bark but was very focused and lunged at every dog we saw. When she was back in the car she was vocal when she saw two dogs on the street.
After the hike she enjoyed a pup cup from Starbucks and we browsed inside Petsmart (luckily no other dogs were inside). She smelled every bag of dog food. She was interested in meeting other people but we gave everyone space. She knows the “sit” command very well and is attentive when a treat is involved.
Per volunteer 12/18/24:
Meet Sandy, a curious and playful girl who’s full of potential and ready to shine in a loving home!
Sandy likes to take her time and check out everything around her. Once she settles in, her sweet side comes out—she relaxes, solicits affection, and loves to jump up with wide, eager eyes for some pets.
Sandy is very treat-motivated (though she can be a little snatchy!) and has a playful streak that will keep you smiling. She enjoys toys and playtime —she’s all about fun!
This affectionate, food-loving girl is ready for a home where she can continue to grow and thrive. Are you ready to welcome Sandy into your life?
Per staff 12/17/24: Sandy was a little timid when I came to her kennel but allowed leashing with the help of treats! She can be snatchy so open palm works best with her. She walked well on the leash and enjoyed getting lots of sniffs in outside. She’s very treat motivated and was happy to sit for them and put her head in my lap to beg for them when I sat down. She did stare with curiosity when another dog and handler came outside but she did not pull towards them or bark! She remained on the timid side the whole time I had her out (when treats weren’t involved) but she was super sweet, allowed handling and pets, and was easy to walk. She gave me no problems returning to her kennel. Lovely girl all around!
Per staff 12/17/24:
No cats waiver added due to high prey drive towards cats in the exam room
