My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Woof! I`m Charmaine, a gentle and quiet puppy in need of a furever home. I am safe in a foster home, and my foster family says I am the most behaved puppy they`ve ever had. I am lucky enough to be in a foster home with my best friend and brother Jakai who is also up for adoption. My foster mom says we are the most well behaved puppies ever. My foster mom leaves a crate open at all times for me, and I go in there whenever I want to feel safe. At first, I was there almost all day, but now I`m braver and want to spend time playing with the dogs in the house and playing with my toys. I am obsessed with pillows and blankets, and I`ll search the house until I find some and then bring them back to my crate until there`s a big pile of pillows and blankets. Then I`ll sleep on the pile of blankets for hours. I go potty outside like a good girl and only have a couple accidents. I love the fenced in yard and that`s where my true personality shines through. I`ll spend as much time as I`m allowed running and playing with the dogs. I am sweet with all dogs. I also am perfect with cats. I give them all the space they want. I don`t want to be grabbed but love being near my foster mom. I am gentle and want to have a home with calm, gentle people, so would do best without young children. I hope that I can find a furever home that loves me as much as I`ll love them.

(4) Have valid ID with current address;
(5) Be approved by Almost Home Foundation as a suitable adoptive home; and
(6) Live in the suburbs surrounding Schaumburg (Illinois Residents only)

Our adoption shows are every Saturday from 11-2 at PetsMart stores in Schaumburg (1440 E Golf Rd) and Bloomingdale (162 S Gary Avenue) and Petco in Bloomingdale (412 W Army Trail Rd). We make every effort to have each one of our available animals at a show each weekend. The schedule can be found on our web site www.almosthomefoundation.org under Adopt and is updated the Friday evening prior to the Saturday show.

What is a Foster Home?
A foster home takes in one of our homeless animals rather than boarding them at the kennel and cares for it until we find a permanent loving home. Almost Home Foundation pays for the all animal's food and medical expenses. The foster home learns the animal's temperament and behaviors. The foster home learns if they get along with other animals. The foster home provides insights on the animals that helps Almost Home Foundation look for the right home for the animal.

We are a Rescue not a Shelter. This simply means we do not own a building where we house animals. We look for loving foster homes that will give temporary care and love on the animal’s journey to a permanent, loving home. When a foster home is not available, we will board the animal at a boarding kennel.

Our 5-year goal is to have a shelter. This is an aggressive goal that will take many donations and memberships. We will strive for this goal with a great team of volunteers and help from people like you! Please become a member, become a sponsor or make a donation.

Our animals are found strayed and brought in from the police. After being held for 7 days, we evaluate the temperament of the animal and determine if the animal is suitable to be a pet. On rare occasion, we will also rescue animals that are in desperate situations where the rescue makes the difference between life and death. We do not accept Owner Give-ups.
