My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lucia is about 1 years old; she is from the Dominican Republic and she was found on the streets with her leg mangled. She had probably been hit by a car, her rescuers brought her to the vet and she had her front leg amputated and she has never looked back! Most tripods are not lower energy or any different from a four-legged dog. It also helps when the amputation is done when they are younger so they have more time to get used to the change. Lucia is amazing with other dogs, loves people and children and has been cat tested. She has been known to hug people when getting attention, is very playful and submissive. She is presently being fostered with a lovely Canadian family in the Dominican. We are looking for someone who would love to adopt the sweet angel so that she may come to Montreal.
Lucia would never be adopted in the country that she's in presently unfortunately, which is why we want to bring her to Montreal. In our experience, special needs dogs have done very well in Canada, where there are more resources and there is more support for these kinds of dogs and their adopters. Lucia is a Doberman Pinscher mix and she weighs about 35 lb. Lucia would make an amazing addition to anyone's family and with a bit of basic leash training and learning not to jump on people for love, and she will be her best self!

Lucia is vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed and sterilized and will come with her medical booklet.
Sometimes a dog takes a little more time to open up, you may see them showing more and more of their personality over the course of the first few days, weeks or even months! We don’t know all that they’ve been through before they were rescued, but they are so forgiving and full of love and it’s worth every tough moment in the end. Developing a trusting relationship with your rescue dog is the most important thing. Stability, patience, positive reinforcement and love are the most important things!

Additional adoption info

We do regular follow ups and virtual home visits before the family meet the dog. :)

Go meet their pets

We are presently foster based so the meetings will take place where the dogs are being kept and that way the potential family can also discuss the good and bad habits of that dog to see if it's the right fit. The families need to be willing to work on a behaviour if it needs work and to provide the appropriate time and patience for the dog to accllimate to it's new home!

More about this rescue

We are a small shelter with lots of experience with dogs and rescuing. I worked for a larger shelter in the past but didn't always appreciate the way things were handled so I decided to branch out in a smaller scale but with all of the wonderful contacts and information that I've learned in the past decade + of doing rescue! Dogs are my passion and I would love to place as many as possible in their loving, furever homes!
