My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Boomer is the ultimate lover boy. His heart has been heavy with few and far between human companionship moments in the shelter. However, he stays loyal to his goals of finding the human he can lean on everyday. Boomer is young, but he’s trained on a leash and walks gracefully in front of you and by your side. While exploring he carries a strong sense of vigilance causing his companionship to make one feel safe. His maroon, red, brown, white socks and shiny coat make him stand out in a crowd. His company while on the couch is incomparable. While playing with toys he is easily entertained. In the play yard he is a joy to watch jump, hop and run. Give this beauty a chance to show you his big heart and I’ll bet he’ll steal yours.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
