Obi is a brown Tabby male who is very sweet! He is a calm boy and very playful who has a big purr! Obi has tested positive for FIV which stands for feline immunodeficiency virus. FIV typically causes a weakening of the cat’s immune system. It is the same class of virus as HIV (a lentivirus); however, only cats can contract FIV, humans and dogs cannot contract FIV. The most common route of infection is a deep bite wound from an FIV positive cat to another cat. It can also be transmitted via blood as well as in utero and/or from the milk of an infected mother cat to her kittens. It is very rare for cats to get FIV just from being around infected cats, sharing food bowls, or from a person touching an FIV positive cat and then touching an FIV negative cat. Many FIV positive cats and FIV negative cats live together in the same home for years without spreading the virus to the non-infected cat(s). Obi also has a fractured tooth that may or may not need to be extracted in the future. Due to Obi`s medical conditions, his adoption fee is waived by West Houston Subaru. (CC 12-23-2024)

Pet Adoption Fees
CAP adoption fees include a variety of services - age-appropriate vaccinations, canine heartworm, and feline leukemia tests, spaying/neutering, deworming treatment, microchipping to name a few - the total value of which exceeds $450. These minimal adoption fees cover only part of each animal's stay at our shelter - please help us keep adoption fees low while maintaining the high quality of care for the animals in our charge by donating and/or volunteering.

A second dog or puppy, adopted within 30 days of the first adoption receives a $20 discount.

Citizens For Animal Protection, founded in 1972, is committed to sheltering, rescuing, and placing homeless animals in loving homes; advocating respect and compassion for all animal life; providing humane education to prevent animal cruelty; and raising awareness in the community of the needs of animals.

CAP is proud to announce that through life-saving adoption and transfer programs and a lot of hard work, we have maintained a placement rate of over 93% for all homeless pets surrendered to our shelter in 2021. In 2021, CAP provided care for 10,260 animals; this includes animals surrendered by the public and transferred in from animal control agencies and rescue groups, animals already in the shelter and foster care program, feral cats trapped/neutered/returned and animals receiving vaccinations and other treatments in our low-cost vaccination clinic, The Cornelius Clinic.
