Mason von Melle is a gorgeous, 11-12 month-old German Shepherd. Mason is a full-on sweetheart with a penchant for ear scratches. If this were a multiple choice question, Mason would truly check all the boxes: all-around good boy, great among other dogs and fantastic with his humans. A gentle boy, he enjoys being close to you and seeks reassurance. Mason is comfortable with other dogs, mingling and introducing himself nicely whether he’s on or off the leash, but he usually finds his way back to his humans quickly, as they’re the only ones who can give him ear scratches, after all. He is sociable in doggy playgroups and has started to play, with a nice play style. And, he has even passed his initial cat testing. Mason has moderate energy levels, making him adaptable to most situations, and he knows his “sit” command too. Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.

Upon receipt of your application, a Westside adoption counselor will contact you.We do aerial home checks and you may be asked to supply pictures as well as arranging for a home visit prior to adoption.
Adoption fees vary with each dog and typically range from $150 to $500. They are set, taking into account the dog's age, training level, temperament, if they’re newly arrived, medical condition(s) (if any) and other factors. Adoption fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, and up-to-date vaccinations.
