Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Turkey was brought to the shelter due to not adapting well in her home. She is a low-energy cat that prefers a quiet place without small children or dogs. Turkey is very loving and will likely bond deeply with her special human in the right environment. She may do best in a home without other pets or possibly another very laid-back, older cat as a friend. Turkey likes to keep things calm. She is super snuggly and loves to lay on your lap for hours and purr, and lightly headbutts your hand and face if you approach her calmly. Turkey has perfect litterbox and household manners, too. But, her cutest skill is fetching toy mice! This affectionate girl is ready to be someone’s special lap-cat friend for life.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
