Smokey is a laid-back, medium-energy cat who enjoys spending time lounging in quiet areas like the bedroom and living room. While he is generally friendly and outgoing, he may hide initially when meeting new people or in unfamiliar situations. He was previously living with five other cats, but Smokey tends to avoid or retreat from them, indicating that he doesn't get along well with other cats.
Smokey enjoys interactive play, particularly with crinkly toys, and he gets playtime multiple times a week. However, he tends to scratch furniture like carpets, fabric, and wood. Although Smokey is affectionate, he prefers to show it on his own terms. He will struggle, hiss, and growl when picked up, held, or placed in a carrier, and he does not enjoy being brushed.
He has a calm disposition, but Smokey may be a little fearful or stressed in new environments, which may make him slow to warm up to a new home. Smokey would be best suited to a home with adults or older children who can be patient with his boundaries. He needs a home where he can have space and time to adjust at his own pace. Given his history of avoiding other cats, he may do best as the only pet in the household.
