Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
I’m Courage, the 9-month-old pointer mix, and while my name may sound brave, the truth is... I’m a little on the timid side. That’s right—I might be sweet, cuddly, and full of wiggle butts, but when it comes to big, scary things like loud noises or unexpected visitors, you might just catch me hiding behind the couch or giving you my best "please protect me" eyes.
Despite my anxious nature, there’s a hero inside of me just waiting to come out. When it matters most, I’ll overcome my fear, take a deep breath, and muster up the courage to protect you. I may not be the first one to run headfirst into danger (in fact, I might try to avoid it at all costs), but when it comes down to it, I’ve got your back. Even the most reluctant heroes have their moments!
I’m incredibly sweet and love nothing more than cuddles and comfort. I’m all about those warm, cozy moments where I can wiggle my butt in happiness, roll over for belly rubs, and snuggle up with you on the couch. While I might be selective with other dogs (hey, it’s a lot to process!), I’ll gladly be your loyal sidekick, always ready to offer affection in return for your love.
Though I may not be the most confident pup, I’m a loving companion with a heart of gold, and I’ll face my fears for you, no matter how big or small. So if you’re looking for a furry friend who’s both timid and brave, sweet and protective, then I’m Courage. Together, we can face anything—one wiggle butt at a time.
I'm Courage the Timid Hero, ready to curl up beside you, ready for whatever might come next...
“The things that go bump in the night? Don’t worry… Courage is here... even if he’s shaking in his boots.”

We hope you meet your four-legged love at SPCA Florida! Our goal is to help you find a companion that best suits your household. We have wonderful animals available and a great deal of information to share with you.
Adoption Process
When you arrive at the Adoption Center we invite you to take a look around and meet the animals. We encourage you and your family to spend time with each pet you are interested in to see which is the best fit. Our trained staff and volunteers are happy to answer questions about the animals and provide you with whatever background information we have regarding that pet. Please keep in mind we do not always know all of the adoptable animals’ history or background depending on how they arrived at SPCA Florida.
If you currently have a dog at home we recommend you bring him or her in to interact with your potential new dog.
When you find a pet you would like to adopt the next step is to fill out an Adoption Application, which will be reviewed with you by one of our trained counselors. The counselors will answer any questions you may have. If the pet is already sterilized he or she can go home the same day, otherwise the surgery is normally scheduled the next day and the pet can go home the day of surgery.
Adoption Fees
Adoption fees vary depending on species, breed and age. The fee includes:
•Spay/Neuter surgery for unsterilized pets
•Dogs are dewormed, tested for heartworms (if negative they receive a 30-day heartworm preventative; if positive a certificate for treatment paid for by the Guardian Angel Fund) and receive vaccinations for canine distemper, adenovirus type 2, parainfluenza, parvovirus and Rabies
•Cats are dewormed, tested for feline leukemia and feline aids and receive vaccinations for feline distemper, rhinotracheitis, calici virus and Rabies
•microchip
