My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cattle dog/Lab mix, female 1 year old

Meet Missy, the sweetest girl in all the land. About one year old, a Cattle Dog/Lab mix.  There is no friendlier dog with people or other dogs than this one right here. She is so loving and affectionate. She bonds hard and fast, and after about 30 seconds, she’ll stick like superglue. You’ll never go to the bathroom alone again.

Missy is a great house dog and one of the privileged few who gets a spot indoors at the rescue ranch. She’s completely housebroken, no potty, no destruction indoors. She sleeps in the living room, her choice. Seems like she wants to be by the entrance to keep watch.

Missy is also fantastic on or off leash. We walk the road or hike the hills, and she just goes with the flow. Oh and she loves car rides. Any opportunity she can get to be with her person is where she wants to be. When we’re busy doing ranch chores, Missy is a porch dog. She roams the unfenced property but never strays too far. If she’s ever out of sight, one blow of the whistle and she comes running right back.

So what’s the deal…why is Missy still here? She’s not a fan of being left alone. What dog is? While she can’t share her backstory with us, we suspect she was abandoned by someone she loved dearly. Missy would do best in a home where her people were around more often than not and even better if she had another dog or two to pack up with when her people step away to do people things. If and when you step away. She's come to understand, I am coming back! Missy just needs a chance (more than a few days) to know she’s home. Routine is reassuring for a dog, she has that here and is just fine.

Looking for a pub dog, coffee shop dog, or a take to work dog? Missy is your girl! She is about 2 years old. Cattle Dog / Lab mix. Microchipped, spayed and UTD on vaccines. She is located in Templeton, CA.

More about this rescue

Central Coast Herding Dog Rescue is a Rescue Alliance partner, a federally recognized 501(c)3 non profit organization dedicated to finding great dogs great homes. County of San Luis Obispo Animal Service Operating Permit #C2649

Central Coast Border Collie Rescue (CCHDRescue) is dedicated to helping find homes for Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, Australian Cattle Dog/Queensland Heeler, Australian Kelpie, and other herding breeds and mixes. This site lists dogs in shelters as well as dogs in homes and foster care, and is intended to help adopters seeking good dogs, and dogs seeking loving homes. 7

Why we do it: Herding dogs are not for every one. Too many adopters get these dogs as status symbols only to find out, their life style doesn't meet these high energy dogs needs. As a result, these wonderful misunderstood dogs wind up in shelters. We understand what drives these dogs, we can place them appropriately.
Our mission is to educate people and save dogs. We do it because we love these dogs, with a little effort, can give them a good new life. Euthanasia is not the solution to our animal overpopulation issue. Education is.
