Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Valley – The Tiny Pup with a Big Personality!
Valley is a sweet and spunky 9-pound Chihuahua mix who’s ready to bring her charm and cuddles into your life. This little princess has a knack for stealing hearts and will be a perfect companion for the right family.
Personality:
Valley adores her humans and loves to snuggle, whether it's curling up behind your neck, on your pillow, or by your head at night. She’s been thriving with her foster family, including two kids (ages 5 and 7), and never hesitates to shower everyone with kisses. Valley has a spirited personality and isn’t shy about taking charge—she’ll happily swipe her foster siblings’ larger chew toys or “borrow” socks and clothes to create her signature nest. Don’t worry—she’s a collector, not a chewer!
Playful and Fearless:
Don’t let her small size fool you—Valley has a big presence! She loves playing with her 38-pound foster brother, wrestling and chasing him around. When she’s had enough, she knows how to communicate with a quick yelp. Valley also enjoys zoomies in the yard, running big circles with boundless energy.
Cold Weather Warrior:
Adjusting to the chilly Chicagoland winters, Valley embraces her sweaters and jackets, often flopping over to show her belly when it’s time to bundle up.
Food Enthusiast:
Valley’s love for food is unmatched. She lights up at mealtime and enjoys occasional veggies in her meals. However, due to her past, she’s learning to take treats gently and is working on sharing food around other dogs. For now, she should be fed separately or supervised to ensure mealtime harmony.
Training and House Manners:
Valley is house-trained as long as she’s kept on a schedule and let out regularly. She’s still mastering her table manners and would do best with a family willing to continue working on gentle treat-taking and curbing her tendency to jump for human food.
Health:
Valley was recently spayed and is finishing up her heartworm treatment. She’s on her way to a full recovery and will soon be ready to find her forever home.
Valley’s perfect combination of sweetness, spunk, and cuddles will make her a wonderful addition to a loving family. Are you ready to welcome this pocket-sized bundle of joy into your life?

More about this rescue
We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.
The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.
Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.
While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.
We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
