My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Maria, a spirited 3-year-old bundle of love who’s eager to find her forever home! This bright and bubbly pup thrives on affection, treats, and the joy of being around people. Maria has a heart full of enthusiasm, but she’s still learning to channel her excitement into calm and focused behavior. With her natural intelligence and deep love for snacks, she’s already making strides in her training and would thrive with a family dedicated to continuing her positive reinforcement journey.

Maria is learning impulse control and leash manners, thanks to her love of treats and her eagerness to please. She responds beautifully to clear communication and has been mastering commands like "Touch," which helps redirect her focus, and “Yes!” as a positive marker for good behavior. Her training sessions are a testament to her potential; she takes treats gently and wags her way through life with a wiggly, happy demeanor.

She has had some nice meets with other dogs and might be what is considered "dog selective." This is another area a good trainer can certainly help Maria's new family navigate.

Maria's perfect day would include quality time with her people, treats for her efforts, and some calm moments to sit and take in the world—perhaps at a park, where she’s practicing her ability to relax around exciting sights and sounds. With consistency and patience, Maria is sure to blossom into the well-mannered companion she’s destined to be.

Maria’s future family will need plenty of treats, a little time for training, and a lot of love to help her become her best self. In return, she’ll fill your days with wiggles, smiles, and the unwavering loyalty of a dog who knows she’s home. Are you ready to welcome this exuberant girl into your life? 🐾

Go meet their pets

At this time, Familiar Hearts Animal Society meetings are by appointment only.

We currently rely on our amazing web of generous fosters throughout the Philadelphia area and will do our best to make a meeting as convenient as possible for both human + animal.

Meetings will need to be coordinated through the foster of the animal you are interested in meeting.

More about this rescue

Mission Statement: To end the unnecessary suffering of homeless companion animals by serving as a refuge and enabling humans to provide them quality and compassionate homes.

Our Vision: Our mission is two-fold; we want to help abandoned pets and we want to help stop pet abandonment.

We operate using a network of kind hearted hands to help find homeless animals veterinary and behavior care and then match them with appropriate forever homes. We also strive to educate pet owners about resources they might utilize in order to best understand how to provide for their friends with furry paws, feathers or claws. We always do our best to help.
