My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Duke is a 7 year old altered male. Duke came to the shelter because sadly his owner passed away. Duke can be described as as a big and goofy boy. He would benefit from a fenced in yard and an active family to help him let out all of his energy out. Duke can be a little over the top when it comes to being over excitable and hyper so he would benefit from an adopter that is able to help Duke work on calming down and listening to instruction from his handler. Duke has never been around cats, so he would need to be cat tested. Duke would need to do a meet and greet with any dogs he may be living with as he can be selective at times. Even though Duke is 7 years old he is still a very energetic and bouncy guy so it would be recommended that he is in a home with older kids.

More about this shelter

We make every effort to find homes for every animal in our care. When our shelter is over-crowded, we rely on a network of "foster families" to take care of our pets. All the while, we have increased our efforts to "get the word out" about our pets (e.g. this website, pictures, newspaper publicity, etc.) Our efforts pay off.

The Staff and Board of Directors at the Humane Society love pets, and our actions bear out that simple fact. Our animal guests get the very best care while they are with us.

Please help! We need volunteers to help us exercise the dogs. We try to walk the dogs each day to provide them with the exercise and attention they so desperately need. You can volunteer as little or as much as you like. If you would be interested in helping us care for our animal guests, please call the shelter at 814-443-2121.
