My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet this babe, Blocks! Blocks is not a man of many words..or barks, but he is just as sweet as can be. The sweetie pie is a little nervous because he`s new around these parts, but he has shown us his fantastic manners so far! Blocks has mastered sit, and is a dream on the leash for walks. Blocks has not been with us at the shelter very long, but has already poked at all our soft spots. Between his drool when he see`s a treat and his somehow beefy yet petite frame, Blocks is the whole package. Stop by to meet him today!

More about this shelter

The South Suburban Humane Society is a 501(c )(3) organization that was started in 1970, serving the animal welfare needs of the entire south suburbs of Chicago. In the beginning, we handled all rescues, adoptions and provided foster care out of private homes. Since November 1973, our organization has been operating a 10,000 square foot open-door animal shelter in Chicago Heights, Illinois.

For over fifty years, our organization has helped tens of thousands of animals. We offer extensive outreach programs including humane education, and community outreach events. We also operate a resale shop located in Steger, Illinois that promotes our organization, our animals and provide much needed income to support our humane work.

The Mission of the South Suburban Humane Society is to protect and promote the well being of pets and their people in our community and beyond.
