**Meet Monkey Bread – The Sweet and Shy Companion**

Monkey Bread is a timid and gentle pup who may take some time to adjust to new environments, but once he feels safe and trusts his human, he blossoms into a loving and loyal companion. While he’s naturally nervous at first, a little patience and some tasty treats help him become braver and more confident in his surroundings.

On walks, Monkey Bread is a joy to take along. He walks beautifully on a leash, only pulling mildly when he gets excited. When he spots other dogs from a distance, he’s more curious than reactive, offering a slight tail wag before easily returning to his own exploration. He enjoys taking his time on walks, sniffing and discovering, making him the perfect companion for those who enjoy a leisurely stroll.

After his first walk, Monkey Bread quickly warms up and transforms into a snuggle bug once he’s in a familiar space. He thrives on the bond he forms with his human and, when he feels comfortable, he’s all about cozying up for some quality cuddle time. Although he’s a bit scared of the car, he allows you to gently pick him up and settle him in, showing his trust in you.

Monkey Bread is looking for a patient, loving home where he can continue to grow and build confidence. With time, love, and reassurance, he will become the most affectionate and loyal companion, ready to offer all the love and cuddles he has to give.

As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines.

Meet the Pet

We require all adopters to meet the pets in person before adoption.

3.
Submit Application

If this is the right pet for you, please fill out the application that the Adoption Counselor gives you and fill out the paperwork.

Pay Fee

Dogs $50, Cats $25, Kittens/Puppies $75, Senior dogs $25, Senior cats $10

Take the Pet Home

We recommend that your current pets are up to date on all of their vaccines before bringing home your new pet.

Additional adoption info

All dog and cat adoptions include age appropriate vaccines, rabies vaccines, microchip, spay/neuter, full body checkup, and flea and tick treatment.

If the dog or cat you choose to adopt is already spayed or neutered, they can go home the same day; otherwise, the spay/neuter surgery is scheduled when you adopt, and you can pick up your new pet after the surgery.

More about this shelter

The Guilford County Animal Shelter is the only public shelter in Guilford County. We are a professional, caring organization devoted to saving the lives of lost, abandoned and surrendered animals of Guilford County, N.C. We strive to humanely care for all the animals and work diligently to return lost animals to their owners.

We are committed to making every adoption of every animal a positive, permanent experience for both the animals and the pet owner. We work collaboratively with other rescue organizations to help place specific dogs, cats, livestock, exotic and wildlife. We also conduct community awareness programs on pet care and responsibility, as well as pet therapy at senior residence homes.

GCAS is committed to every animal that arrives at our facility. Our staff is devoted to treating every animal with a curable illness in order to help it get adopted. We are proud to have a 97% success rate with dogs and a 78% success rate with cats.
