My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I'm a big sweet boy who loves to go for walks and be with my people. I am a big boy who is definitely a working breed, so if you have a lot of land for me to hang out on, that would be great! I was adopted, and my people loved me, but due to some medical issues with my people, they had to give me up. They were heartbroken about it.

I would do best with no kids or only those in their teen years, as I am a big boy and can be grabby with food stuff, but I'd do best in an adult only home without a ton of strangers coming in and out. I could be your new best friend, and I'm super fluffy so I can keep you warm too! Please come and meet me soon.

*We DO NOT transfer dogs to other shelters or transport for the purpose of adoption. We do not adopt over 350 miles away.

More about this shelter

It is the primary mission of CCHS to operate a "no time limits" shelter for domestic (non-feral) dogs and cats from Keweenaw, Houghton, and Baraga Counties and the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community in accordance with the guidelines set by the Michigan Department of Agriculture. The shelter receives animals from animal control and private citizens. CCHS works to return lost animals to their owners and to identify suitable homes for the remaining animals. These animals are not judged by "time of stay" to determine adoptability. Euthanasia will be considered per veterinarian recommendation based on health, temperament and quality of life and will only be performed by a veterinarian. While in our care, animals receive professional, quality care by concerned individuals dedicated to helping animals.
