Meet the Pet
BLUE - 4 years, 25lbs, Heeler, Spayed
Their Foster Parent Says: "Blue's a lovely little companion. Eager to please and a huge snuggle bug, she just wants to be glued to your side out and about or at home. She's not phased by the city, on a mission to catch a pigeon. She's definitely part heeler and should be pretty smart and trainable! Seems to be part frenchie too, so she's small and easy to have in smaller spaces or carry. At home she just wants to snuggle on the couch with you all day. She's a bit jealous and protective of her stuff, so would definitely recommend picking up toys for any play dates! She is also a shoe thief, but in an adorable way."
Level of dog ownership experience needed:
INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.)
Energy level:
MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)
Cuddle bug level - maximum - loves to cuddle!
Potty trained - yes but does have transitional accidents as she gets used to a new home
Comfy with strangers - yep! Loves meeting new humans
Comfy with children - yes for all ages
Social with other dogs - Yes, but should be the only dog in the home. Is fine with dogs on the street, etc. Has a hard time sharing stuff in the home so would be best a solo pup.
Respectful of other animals - sort of. Not seen around cats but chases squirrels and birds
Mouthy - low. Will steal shoes extensively but doesn't chew on them.
Leash - getting the hang of it. Sort of orbits me on walks, but often bumps into my feet.
Okay in the city - yes, will be fine to be adopted out in the city
Jumping on people to say hi - high but she's so small that it's not really an issue, everyone thinks it's cute. Working on training her off of it though.
Sep anxiety - Fine home alone - just likes to move shoes around
Crate training - we don't use a crate in the house
Medical status
Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake
How this dog ended up with Social Tees:
Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!
This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
