Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
It’s her eyes that are going to capture your heart first. We long for the day when the worry is washed away completely, but we know that will take time. The first video we received from the shelter, she was hiding under her sister, trembling with fear. She’s been in the care of an experienced foster and made tremendous strides. Her happy and playful side appear in brief moments once she gets comfortable. She’ll gallop around the yard, chase after toys, and eventually seek out gentle pets. Seeing her come out of her shell is incredibly rewarding. We’re looking for a family that is patient and kind and will continue to help her see that humans can be kind.
As of December, Contessa is estimated to be around 6 months old and is ~35-40 lbs. She’s considered to be a rottweiler mix, big, soft, and snuggly but could also have some shepherd in her. It’s entirely unknown! She is doing great walking on leash and has started to explore her surroundings.
This pup LOVES dogs. And we’d like to see her in a home with other dogs. They help her feel safe and she finds comfort in their presence. We expect her to be a large dog once full grown and she’ll take extra time to learn basic obedience and potty training due to her timidness. She sleeps quietly in her crate at night when she’s near other dogs, whimpering only to let you know she needs to go potty.
Contessa has a soft coat of fur, a wrinkly face, and double dew claws on her hind legs. She cuddles hard once she’s comfortable around you, but needs some tough love (being pushed out of her comfort zone) to realize she’s okay. Small kiddos are terribly frightening to her at this stage, so a home without kids or older children would be best.
Adopting Contessa will be so rewarding, seeing a scared pup blossom in your home is incredibly rewarding. We know this girl will learn to trust with time and when she does she’ll make a family very happy!
