My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Toe-ny is a 2-year-old, sweet and cuddly guy looking for his forever home!

This low-key orange tabby loves to nap and be near his humans. Sometimes, he’s content napping on his own, but he’s also more than happy to curl up on a lap or chest for extra snuggles. Toe-ny is a smart boy who listens well to commands like "no" and "move back" from his foster mom. He has even learned to play fetch, which is sure to put a smile on your face when he brings the toy back to you!

One of Toe-ny’s most unique features is his adorable mittens! He has two thumbs in each of his front paws, but while his mittens are cute, he still can’t quite help you open jars in the kitchen. Toe-ny has not been declawed while in care.

This sweet guy is pretty chill overall but does enjoy a bit of playtime with his favorite toy around 7 pm. He’ll sometimes even engage in a game of fetch!

Currently, Toe-ny lives with his foster mom and is slowly trying to get to know another foster cat. While it’s still to be determined if they’ll become best buddies, Toe-ny seems to be open to a calm companion. A mellow, easy-going feline friend would be ideal, and this could change as we learn more about him.

He has a bit of a nervous side when it comes to men. He warms up very slowly and can be unsure around them, so he would do best in a home with a single woman or a couple where the man is willing to be patient. He’s also great with children over 5, loving their company and enjoying attention from gentle, respectful kids. Toe-ny has not met any dogs yet, but he could likely adjust to a calm dog with the proper introduction.

Toe-ny is literally the sweetest cat ever—calm, affectionate, and ready to bring joy to a loving home!

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
