Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Meet Ash, a sweet but shy cat who is looking for a quiet home where they can feel safe and secure. They came from an overcrowded environment, and while they may be timid and need support in day to day life, they have potential to blossom with a patient and understanding adopter. A calm, low-traffic home with a someone who understands their need for space and time to warm up would be ideal. New people and environments can be overwhelming at first and adopters should expect to see very little of them as they are settling in. We often can’t predict how a shy cat will be after they settle in - some become comfortable around their family and choose to spend time with them by sharing the same space or allowing some petting, while others continue to prefer to hide when there’s any commotion. These cats generally prefer to spend their time around other cats and will likely enjoy the company of a confident cat already in the home. Our staff can help prepare adopters to welcome these cats into a quiet home, but patience and understanding will go a long way with them.
If you think this cat could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by Northeast Animal Shelter. We have open adoption hours 11:30am-5pm daily - no appointment or application needed.
You are welcome to enter our cat rooms during open hours. Staff and volunteers will be happy to assist you!

More about this shelter
Northeast Animal Shelter, established in 1976, is now part of the MSPCA-Angell, giving us a better opportunity to serve our community, provide additional life-saving programs and services, and protect more animals from cruelty and neglect.
Our adoption program is designed to be welcoming, nonjudgmental, and free of lengthy applications. We strive to engage all prospective adopters in a conversation aimed at matching an adopter’s lifestyle, interests and home environment with an animal’s personality, medical and behavioral needs. Adopting an animal is an extraordinary opportunity to choose your newest family member. At the MSPCA it is a great privilege for our staff and volunteers to guide that journey for adopters and animals.
