My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sprinkles! This Catahoula girl came to the Shelter as a stray. A staff member was arriving for work at our Watsonville location and saw a crate left by a fenceline. Upon further inspection, this sweet girl was in the crate and there was no one to be found. Staff took her in safely indoors, got her some warm bedding and a yummy meal.

Despite her background, this resilient dog has been observed by staff to be very social and attentive, easy to take out on leash and tolerant of a variety of handling. She has a bubbly personality when out in the exercise yards and is very agile. She likes to run after toys but is still perfecting the art of bringing them back to continue the game.
Sprinkles has been interested in play with other dogs but is not always listening when they say “give me space” or “no thank you”. A home with a doggy playmate may be a fit provided they meet at the Shelter prior to adoption.
Staff have observed Sprinkles having a bit of prey drive while in our care so a home free of cats and/or small animals (guinea pigs, rabbits, etc) is required.

We do not have any history of Sprinkles in a home environment or with children.

Adopters should plan on bonding with Sprinkles through force free training. She is very food motivated so that should make treat based training a breeze!

If you are looking for a pup to sprinkle your home with fun - come meet Sprinkles today!

Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
