My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ABOUT ME…
Hi, I’m DJ! My foster mom describes me as “a scrappy, tiny-yet-fierce Yorkie mix with the heart of a lion and a mane to match.” (I’m blushing…not!)

A little over a month ago, I narrowly escaped a bleak fate at an area shelter due to a bite incident, which happened when I felt overwhelmed and scared when a small child invaded my face space with theirs. (I didn’t know what the heck was going on, so I panicked) I’ve since been learning how to trust and feel safe in my foster home, and I know the right, patient family will help me continue to thrive and show off my unique mix of personality, bravery, and smarts.

I recently finished up treatment for Lyme disease, conquered kennel cough, and just have one more round of vaccinations to go. My foster mom says I’m a true terrier—independent, curious, and adventurous, always ready to explore the world around me.

My thoughtful, inquisitive head tilts will make you laugh, melt, and fall in love—all at the same time.

I AM GREAT WITH…
I walk beautifully on a leash and absolutely love the outdoors! Digging through grass or snow like a pint-sized excavator is my idea of a good time. You’ll always know when I need a potty break because I’ll whine persistently until you take me out (I will not be ignored).

Finally, I’m a pro at stop-drop-and-rolling for belly rubs when the mood strikes—so please respond accordingly!

I AM STILL WORKING ON…
Car rides make me a little nervous, but I do just fine with some comforting words and reassurance. I’m courageous and determined, so I know I’ll improve with time and practice.

I AM NOT GOOD WITH…
Kids who don’t understand boundaries… or maybe kids in general. I prefer to avoid them altogether and would thrive in a calm, predictable home where I can feel safe and secure.

Cuddling. There, I said it. I love my human, but I’m not one for too much up-close-and-personal time. I’m happy to hop onto the couch or bed for a snack or a quick visit, but when it’s time for serious sleeping, I prefer the cool, comfy floor—it’s just more my style.

I REQUIRE…
A patient and loving home with people who appreciate my terrier spirit and respect my need for space. Regular outdoor adventures, occasional belly rubs, and a cozy spot to relax will make me one happy pup. Of course, if you don’t mind, I’m just as happy finding my own favorite spot to unwind.

FUN FACTS ABOUT ME…
My looks? Well, my foster mom says I’m a mix of mini Wookie, a canine Aslan, a dash of Gizmo, and even a Tribble from Star Trek when I’m digging, and you can’t see my head. I don’t know what any of that means, but I hear it’s endearing.
Oh, and I’ve earned the title of “furry little snow bandit,” which I wear with pride.
