--FOSTER PUPDATE-- Honey Bear A170451 53 lb. neutered male, approx 2 years old
Nothing is Sweeter than Honey (Bear)!
Just like the real thing is sticky and sweet, this incredible guy is true to his name! He is as loving as can be and what he enjoys most is sticking close to your side—whether that’s snuggling on the couch, following you room to room, or being right up close as you both snooze through the night. Here’s a little more about this special boy:
Gentle Soul: On a recent outing to the pet store, Honey Bear greeted everyone calmly and with kindness, including gently saying hello to an elderly woman. He has done well with kids at previous events and loves people. He seems to have a natural ability to adapt to people of all ages and sizes.
Car Companion: He usually hops into the car himself but when he didn't want to leave the pet store, he needed his person to get in the car first to entice him to jump in and then he gladly jumped in too! Once in, he’s a great passenger, though he does like to sneak up front to the passenger seat at times for extra snuggles.
Confidence-Building: He has seemed a little scared around really loud new sounds and experiences, but adapts quickly and just needs someone to help him as he keeps figuring things out. He also wasn't too sure about the loud shower head when his foster turned it on to give him a washcloth bath, but he just gave her kisses the entire time!
Playful & Smart: Honey Bear loves toys and is independently playful with them. He knows "sit", "stay", and is practicing "down." He might know "come" though it's hard to tell since he just naturally wants to be close by your side! Teaching him to "go" would be a much bigger feat!
If you leave toys on a TV console he may help himself to them, and he did mistakenly chew a bopper beanie thinking it was a toy! He has always listened immediately when told no and redirected right away. With just a little training, he seems like he will be a fast learner for what he can and cannot help himself to!
Fur Friends: Honey Bear seemed non-reactive to other animals when in the shelter and at events, and on a slumber party, he met (and licked) a cat and did a buddy walk with other dogs. He did however also have an incident with a dog-selective dog that bit him, and Honey Bear did not aggress in return and was submissive. He has since seen dogs on walks and in the pet store and seems interested still in making friends, he just wants to be sure the feeling is reciprocal. He needs a home that can be sensitive to his need for slow intros to feel safe.
A Proper Gentleman: Honey Bear has had no accidents in his foster home, does well in his crate, and walks nicely on leash. He hasn't barked since being here either. I'm sure he's got a voice at times, but he is a generally quiet and gentle boy.
The Slow-Flow of Honey: Honey Bear is a lower-energy guy that seems to prefer being home and cozy over going out for new adventures.
Honey Bear has been through a lot, including over a month in the shelter and couple of changes in overnight stays and a scary situation with another pup before he was able to find a foster home, so he’s looking for a stable, loving home where he can find safety and stability and tons of snuggles. Whether you’re interested in adopting or fostering-to-adopt, this loyal, loving boy is ready to meet you and bring endless sweetness into your life.
