January 7th update from foster mom: Zara is a total sweetie. She has energy and puppy bounce, but settles down quietly as soon as I do. She was shy initially with my two large pups, but is now playing really well with both of them. I am sure she was house trained, as she always goes immediately when we go outside. I suspect the few pee accidents are just because our schedule is new. She does fairly well on leash, but would rather run free like the other two. She really loves the snow! She also loves treats but would happily give up her kibble to the other dogs. She does not guard her toys or her food and she did really well in the car. She is quite submissive, even with me, but then snuggles right in my lap or arms. I hope to see her become more confident in the next few weeks.
Zara arrived at NCCR on 1/4/25, rescued from an overcrowded shelter that ran out of room for her. She is an approximately 9-month-old spayed female mixed breed. Zara is reportedly very friendly with people and other dogs. As with all puppies, she will require ongoing daily training, plenty of exercise and 1-on-1 play time, and lots of patience and love to help her become the best dog she can be.

It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far as processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again if you see another dog that interests you. If you have a question, please email your question to adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day.
We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopter must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in.

Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone so advise your references that there may be an unknown number or a private number calling them.
