My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Overview

If you’re looking for a snuggly best friend to enjoy life with, we’ve got just the pup for you! Meet Clark, a handsome 10 yr old longhaired dachshund! At 19 lbs Clark is a tweenie who is long on love, a true Velcro dog who is happy to do just about anything as long as he’s doing it with you!

Environment

Clark needs a home where his humans are home most of the time as he experiences separation anxiety and doesn't like to be left alone for long periods. He is used to sleeping in his crate at night but is not used to being crated during the day. Apartment living isn't ideal for him as he will bark and softly howl when left alone. Clark is somewhat weewee pad trained, but in a new environment will have accidents, and his new family will need to help him acclimate and give him a refresher on potty training. He is happy to do his business outside in a yard if given plenty of time to sniff out the right spot without distractions. Because Clark is an older gentleman, he can sometimes be a bit grumpy and needs to be handled with care, for this reason he will need to be placed in a home without children.

Pets & People

Clark is friendly with other small dogs and has no problem sharing his humans or his toys with them. He will sometimes guard his food or try to steal food from the other dogs in the home however, so he will need to be separated at mealtimes. While Clark enjoys the company of other dogs, he has been an only pet his whole life and would be perfectly happy to be your solo companion! Clark will form a strong attachment to one person in the home, but he will also accept pets and love from the spare members of the household. In his original home he was protective of his owners and would growl at strangers who entered the house, so he will need to be introduced to visitors slowly and with care.

Location

Clark is available for adoption from Jackson Heights, NY. He does well in the car so he can be transported within reason.

Please email jemmaallenny@gmail.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the link above. The adoption fee for Clark is $250.00

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Go meet their pets

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
