Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Abby was found as a stray and brought to the shelter. She was dangerously underweight and had horrendous skin issues. The shelter contacted us to address her medical needs. It was discovered that her skin issue was a severe, long untreated food allergy. Once we put her on a prescription food diet (hydrolyzed protein) her skin issues quickly resolved. Eventually we switched her to a fish based food (NO BEEF or CHICKEN!) and her skin remained good. Putting weight on her was a little more challenging (it takes a long time to get a starved dog to put on weight). She 3+ months that she has been in foster care, she has gained back about 3 lbs. She could stand to gain 1 or 2 more. She has a very good appetite - any other dog eating what she eats would easily be overweight.
Abby is super friendly (some would argue maybe too friendly) and loves everybody she meets. She is a compulsive face licker. She has some separation anxiety issues, and would do better with other friendly, playful dogs in the home. She doesn’t like to be confined in a crate or pen for any length of time (she sleeps on the bed with her humans).
Other than her dietary needs, she is also on joint and skin supplements. She has luxating patellas and a little arthritis in her knees, but it doesn’t impede her ability to get around. Otherwise, she is very healthy.
