My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Meet Shiloh, the sweet, intelligent, and affectionate pup who’s ready to find a home where she can thrive! Shiloh wandered up to her Texan foster family while they were out on a walk.  She was then brought into rescue, and she’s been blossoming into a loving companion ever since.

Shiloh is great with children, other dogs, and adults. Though she hasn’t been around cats her gentle and friendly nature suggests she’d likely do well, but we still recommend slow intros, and making sure any resident kitties have a safe space to retreat to if needed. Shiloh loves being close to her humans—whether it’s following you from room to room, napping nearby, or soaking up belly rubs. She lives for praise and thrives on affirmations, often preferring them over treats.

This clever girl is leash trained, crate trained, and eager to please. She’s learning quickly—she even figured out how to ring the bells by the back door to go outside!  She is mostly potty trained, and a consistent schedule of feeding/outside time will help to reinforce those good potty training habits that she has already formed.  While she’s made great strides with her leash manners, further reinforcement of those good manners will need to occur in her new home here in MN as well.

Shiloh’s daily routine is a balance of activity and relaxation. She enjoys two 30-minute walks and gets her energy out with playtime and attention. Afterward, she’s happy to nap in a sunny spot, the middle of the floor, or her kennel. She’s a self-paced eater who seems to prefer snacking throughout the day rather than eating her meals all at once.

Though Shiloh is affectionate and eager to please, she does vocalize her.. shall we say displeasure. Especially when kenneled or left outside alone for too long. She may vocalize her feelings with howls, but regular exercise, mental stimulation, and a little patience will allow her to become accustomed to her new surroundings/routine. At night, she sleeps best in her kennel if it’s placed in the same room as her humans.

Shiloh would thrive in a home with someone who can dedicate time to her exercise and engagement needs. She’s an intelligent, gentle, and goofy girl who will repay your love with loyalty, cuddles, and plenty of laughs. If you’re looking for a companion who’ll adore you endlessly, Shiloh might just be your perfect match! Go and fill out that adoption application today.. she honestly can't wait to meet you!

Shiloh is from Texas.

Go meet their pets

Ruff Start Rescue is a foster-based rescue, meaning no animals are available at the Princeton, MN office for public viewing or adoption. All animals in our care reside in foster homes with few special exceptions for our adoption center animals, who are housed at our partnering facilities temporarily before adoption. To meet a Ruff Starter you may be interested in adopting, please submit an adoption application on our website.

More about this rescue

Ruff Start Rescue is a foster-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit companion animal rescue that primarily serves communities throughout the state of Minnesota, as well as states in the south with severe pet overpopulation. We rescue stray, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered dogs and cats as well as ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits, and other critters. Most of our work is accomplished by a complex network of volunteers, fosters, and supporters, all of whom come together to save thousands of animals each year.

Since our inception, we’ve firmly believed that a home is usually a far more desirable environment than a shelter or a kennel for most companion animals in need of a forever family. As a result, we rely nearly exclusively on volunteers to provide foster homes for rescued pets until they find their adoptive homes. Please note: this means no animals are available at our facility for public viewing.

Each pet in our care is provided with routine vaccinations, spay/neuter procedures, microchipped, given internal and external parasite preventatives, and tested for common bloodborne pathogens such as heartworm and feline leukemia. Advanced veterinary care is provided to any animal that requires such services before adoption.

If you are interested in fostering, adopting, or volunteering, please fill out an applicable application at our website: www.ruffstartrescue.org.
