Meet River, a 7-year-old mastiff mix with a heart as big as his presence! Weighing in at around 50 pounds, River is a dog who brings both strength and affection to the table. He’s looking for a loving, patient, and experienced adopter who understands his unique needs and is ready to help him flourish in a calm, structured environment.
He can be a bit shy around strangers but once he warms up, he’s a loyal and devoted companion. He thrives in the presence of his people and is most comfortable in a home where he can feel secure. River’s ideal home is one with no other pets or small animals, as he has a high prey drive and a tendency to react around other dogs and cats. He would do best as the sole pet in an adult-only household where he can receive the attention and guidance he deserves.
Training & Behavior Needs:
River has a few things he`s working through, but with the right owner, he has the potential to make great strides. Here`s what you should know about him:
Leash Training: River is strong and loves to pull on the leash during walks, so he will need a bit of work to improve his leash manners. With some consistent training and positive reinforcement, he will learn how to walk more politely. Dog Reactivity: Due to his reactivity to other dogs, River needs a calm, pet-free home. He can get overwhelmed by the presence of other animals and will need time and patience to work through his reactivity. With the right guidance, he can learn to manage these impulses. Food Guarding: River has some food guarding tendencies that will require careful management and training. His new family should be prepared to work with him on this issue, using positive reinforcement techniques to help him feel more secure around food. Timid with Strangers: While River can be a little timid with new people, once he gets to know you, he becomes a loving and loyal companion. We require potential adopters to fill out an pre-adoption application. If that application is approved, the dog/cat must be spayed/neutered before it leaves our shelter (if not already done). If it is a puppy under 4 months old, we allow it to go home with the adopters under a foster care agreement until it is old enough to be returned for spay/neuter. Kittens are allowed to leave before spay/neuter is done, but they must be done within a certain time frame.
Fees: Dogs/puppies range from $150-300, depending on if they came in already spayed/neutered or if we paid to have that done.
Cats range from $80 - $140, though we often have deals on older cats or cats that have been there a long time.
Kittens are $60 with $25 refunded once it has been spayed/neutered.
All adoptions include at least the first vaccination, deworming, de-fleaing, microchip ID, and 6 weeks of pet insurance.
