My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HISTORY: FELIX and his brother PADDY were rescued from the backyard where they were born.
TEMPERAMENT: FELIX is a goofy big boy with gorgeous eyes. He is very food motivated so using chicken breast and Churus you can make him your best friend. FELIX enjoys toys that he can bat around, tall cat trees to perch on, and scratching posts that he can dance around. He is a night owl who becomes more active and interactive after dark.

Despite his obvious charms, FELIX has had trouble making kitty friends in adoptive homes. During his stay at our shelter, he grew especially fond of older female cats, whom he loved to snuggle with. When moved to the cat cafe, FELIX allowed many a kitten to cuddle next to him. However, when FELIX was fostered with one female cat half his size (twice, in two different homes), things did not work out. FELIX may need a confident but gentle cat friend his own size, or he may now prefer to be an only cat.

FELIX does not like to be picked up but very much enjoys head-butting his humans 'hello.' He grew fond of sitting on laps in his foster homes. He even slept in bed with his foster parent. FELIX seems comfortable with a variety of people, including young teens. However, he would do best in a quiet home with patient adopters who give him space to nap all day and attention and treats in the evening.

We have a modest shelter at our boarding facility, Santa Fe Cats, and rely mainly on foster homes when cats are not on display at our Adoption Centers located inside Petco Santa Fe and the Turquoise Teapot & Cat Cafe. We also have cats inside a habitat at Teca Tu.

Felines & Friends is dedicated to rescuing and placing pets in need of a second chance; working towards zero pet overpopulation by facilitating low-cost spay/neuter; and improving the lives of both companion animals and their owners through on-going education.

In recent years, significant strides have been made in reducing the euthanasia rate of dogs and cats all across the nation. FELINES & FRIENDS plays an important role in this effort by supporting community TNR efforts, spaying/neutering and then rehoming unaltered stray and surrendered cats, and (through collaboration with local shelters) rehoming otherwise homeless or special needs cats and kittens. Since its formation in 2002, FELINES & FRIENDS has gained a reputation in Northern New Mexico for its proactive work in the pairing of cats and their humans. To date, we have placed over 6,000 cats (and dogs) into loving homes.

FELINES & FRIENDS utilizes a comprehensive adoption screening process to enhance the fit between pet and their adoptive family. The organization also maintains a strict return policy if ownership commitment cannot be met.
