My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cali is a lovely friendly 4 year old Frenchie who recently lost use of her back legs. Unfortunately by the time she came to us she had already been paralyzed for too long for surgery to be an option, and she is unlikely to regain function. She is incontinent and needs her bladder expressed which is very easy to learn to do and will soon be fitted for a wheelchair and start some physical therapy which may lead to some improvement. She's gotten along well with other dogs in her temporary foster and is a happy playful girl who hasn't let this setback get her down. Please submit an application if you would like to open your home to Cali

More about this shelter

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.

To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
