Buzz ACCT-A-211347 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Buzz must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER, or ADOPTER by SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 2ND at 10AM. Should Buzz’s medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Buzz is a gentle girl who has been through a lot. Found as a stray on January 14th, she's been doing her best to adjust to the shelter environment, which can be overwhelming. Despite her initial fear, Buzz is full of potential and ready to blossom in a calm and loving home. When you first meet Buzz she may be shy, but with just a little patience, her sweet and affectionate side comes to life. She loves gentle pets and will lean into you for comfort once she feels secure. This beautiful pup would thrive in a quieter environment with someone who understands her need for time and reassurance. Buzz would likely do best in a home without young children, but she has done well meeting other dogs while at the shelter. Please bring all family members and any resident dogs along for a meet. If you’re ready to give Buzz the love and stability she deserves, she’s more than ready to give you her heart. Due to her length of stay, Buzz is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner, foster, or adopter.

BEHAVIOR:
Per staff 1/28: Strong dog.
Per staff 1/27: Loves to run.
Per volunteer 1/24: took Buzz out with the intent of going for a run but she was pretty strong on her leash and was too slippery to avoid falling so we trotted though the parking lot to yard to play. This goofy girl is so playful! She played with balls, stuffies, and even a treat— which I think she thought was a toy at first. Buzz has some energy to burn and I was more than happy to run around with her! After she shook off the cobwebs she sat right at my feet and asked for pets. She let me wipe the sleep from her eyes and even some of the slobber from her mouth. Buzz is a 12/10 and is going to be a superstar in a home with an active human! Went in kennel fine.
Per staff 1/24: Doesn’t like to return, may need another handler to help lift.
Per volunteer 1/19: I had Buzz out for the photoshoot. They were easily leashed to take outside. Once outside, Buzz is quite strong and will pull towards things she wants to explore. We went into a fenced yard and Buzz said hello to another dog ( Spot) through the fence. In the run, she did some pacing but also checked in with me and allowed handling. Buzz did great at the photoshoot- no fear of strangers and took treats from others. Buzz did resist returning to their kennel and a second handler was needed to lift her in.
Per volunteer 1/18: Good dog meet.
Per staff 1/17: Buzz got out to stretch her legs today! She had surgery earlier on in the day, but was bright and alert when I greeted her in kennel. She was on the opposite side but came right up with soft eyes. She was easy to leash and came right out. Int he eval room she whined a lot and continued to pace and exit search, but did put her head in my lap for a few minutes and leaned in for lots of comfort and love. She laid her whole head in my lap and looked up with the sweetest eyes while I tried to comfort her. Another staff member came in and Buzz began exit searching again. She allowed the new person to give her some all over body pets, but was pacing and wouldn't settle at that point. Poor girl is just so stressed here, she knows she doesn't belong here! She was easy to return to kennel and paced in there as well.
Per staff 1/16: Buzz got out for some one on one time today! She was laying on her bed in kennel, but came right to the door when she saw the leash. She was easy to leash and didn't pull to much! When we got to the eval room she seemed much more relaxed at first. She sniffed around the room with a wagging tail, and even took a couple treats! She was SO gentle with them! Unfortunately, she got a whiff of outside smell from the fan in the room, and became very exit oriented again. She paced and whined, jumping at the windows and doors again. Buzz knows she's not supposed to be here. I took her back to kennel with some enrichment to help her stress, and she climbed in perfectly. Buzz is just very stressed with her situation here, but she remains very sweet.
Per volunteer 1/16: Buzz is such a sweet girl, she loves treats and is super gentle. She’s very confused here at the shelter, I took her outside she was very eager to per in the grass and pooped shortly after, it seems like she is trying to stay house broken!
Per volunteer 1/15: Calm in kennel, tried to find exit any chance she could. Didn’t settle when brought in eval room. Great on leash, takes treats gently.
1/15 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Buzz was laying on her bed when approaching with wide eyes and was very fearful. When the handler opened the door she pinned her ears and sniffed towards the handler. The handler easily lassoed her while she remained laying down and once secured she came out of kennel without issue.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls strongly
HANDLING :
Once in the room Buzz was very anxious and escape oriented. She was whining, pacing, looking for exits, and owner searching a majority of the time while out with us today. She allowed all over handling without any issues, remaining neutral while being pet. She would give little nub wags in small spurts but then begin to whine and pace again.
PLAY:
No interest
TOYS:
No interest
Per staff 1/15: Such a sweetheart. Was trembling in her kennel terrified. Opened kennel door and she was very fearful but eventually moved her head so I could pet her, then she leaned in and stopped shaking. She is terrified by the noise in the shelter but clearly was someone’s dog. Just give her a few minutes to warm up and she’s a mush.
MEDICAL:
On 1/21, Buzz was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. She tested negative for pneumovirus. Her medication is scheduled until 2/3.
On 1/17, Buzz was spayed.
On 1/16, Buzz was prescribed a week-long course of Trazodone due to anxious behavior.
During her intake exam on 1/16, Buzz appeared to be in good health overall. Her eyes were a bit red and she had mild, clear nasal discharge. Her ears were cropped and no skin or coat concerns were noted.
