HISTORY: TOM FORD was abandoned in August 2024 and brought to Felines & Friends when found to be FIV+. However, as is typical with many FIV+ cats, this cat has no symptoms, is in excellent health and expected to live a normal lifespan. While conventional thinking is to only place an FIV+ cat in a home with no other cats or with another FIV+ cat, there are many “mixed households.” According to Cornell University, the primary mode of Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) transmission is through repeated fights resulting in the exchange of blood, and it poses no threat to humans or other species.
TEMPERAMENT: TOM FORD is a big, gentle, easy-going guy who doesn't seem to have a mean bone in his body. He is easy to handle, very much enjoys napping, and would seriously love a soft place to land. This low-maintenance marshmallow previously lived with a brother who passed away just before he came to F&F. His rescuer stated the brothers had been abandoned for a few months before he rescued them. TOM FORD has bumpy ears that do not need treatment. Although he has not objected to living with other cats at F&F, he does not seek cat company and may be just fine as an only cat.
AGE: born approx. 10/18/2014 (~10 yrs old at rescue)
MICROCHIP #: -5368
DATE OF STERILIZATION: neutered, date unknown
VAX RECORD: FVRCP expires: 11/20/25; Rabies expires: 10/25/25
FELV/FIV test: 11/1/24 FIV+
