My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Princess Diana was loved by many people throughout the world. She once said, “I like to be a free spirit. Some don’t like that, but that’s the way I am.” I’m a bit of a free spirit too. I’m Charlene, a medium-haired, brown tabby kitten. I was found on a rural property with my mama and siblings, and we’ve been staying in a foster home. I was a bottle baby, but you should see me now! I’m a gorgeous girl, and don’t I know it! My foster mom says that I am “both a lover and a diva.” She said that I strut my stuff as if I’m the queen of the castle. I do get along extremely well with all the foster cats, so maybe I don’t feel so high and mighty all the time. When I was a tiny kitten, I hung out with the foster dogs, so I’ll probably be fine with dogs too. My foster mom did say that I turn into a “devil cat” when it comes to taking meds, however! As with many cats, pilling practice makes perfect, but I hope I won’t be needing to take medications for a long, long time!
I will be staying in our foster home, so if you are interested in adopting me, you will need to apply online. Someone from the shelter will contact you to arrange a meet and greet.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Paws and Claws Humane Society (PCHS) is a non-profit, mostly volunteer organization that rescues and shelters homeless cats and dogs until they can be adopted into their “forever” homes. We want our clients to understand that adopting and animal is a lifetime responsibility and commitment to that animal.

All prospective adopters must show (at the time of adoption) a valid drivers license or other acceptable identification to verify their name, address, and age. Adopters must be 18 yrs of age. Children under the age of 12 years old need to be present at time of viewing shelter cats or dogs.

After submitting an application, there is generally a processing period of 1-3 days in order to complete all pre-adoption checks and paperwork before an adopter may take possession of the animal.

More about this rescue

Paws and Claws Humane Society is committed to partnering with the community to shelter, protect, and seek adoptive homes for abandoned or lost companion animals.

We have served Southern Minnesota for over 30 years and we are the largest shelter in the 8 surrounding counties that does not limit the length of stay for the animals in its care.

Paws & Claws is funded completely on donations and fundraising events and receives no federal, state, county or city funds. We currently have nearly 900 dues paying members.

Paws & Claws has a community fund to help pay for the spaying and neutering of companion animals for those who cannot afford it.

We give over 40 tours and presentations annually, educating the public [including over 400 children] about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals to help control the pet population in Southern Minnesota.

We have over 110 families that participate in the Guardian Angel Program [sponsoring animals] each month.

Paws & Claws will take in an injured animal and get the emergency medical care that it requires.

Local veterinarians in and around Rochester help Paws & Claws by providing over 145 free spay or neuters each year.

In a typical year the shelter will facilitate adoptions and provide care for over 600 dogs and cats.
