Naomi came to Longmeadow with a group of other horses in 2024. Like many other equine who find themselves in our care, she was nervous and unsure of Longmeadow staff. After a couple weeks of learning her new routine and being handled, Naomi started to settle into her new life. After her quarantine period was finished, she was able to be evaluated by our trainers.
Upon evaluation, our trainers found this mare to be a little more on the anxious side. She is buddy sour and often more interested in her horse friends than her interactions with people. While we believe she has been previously trained under saddle, she struggles with standing still during mounting, likely due to not being entirely familiar with the handler as well as her anxious nature. While being ridden, Naomi seemed to be uncomfortable. While our trainers could not pinpoint a lameness issue, they believe she suffers from a weak back. Naomi could potentially be fit for light riding, but would not mind a life as a pasture companion to your herd back home.
Naomi tends to be in the middle of the pecking order when in a herd. She enjoys spending time with her equine buddies more than her human friends, but we think with time and patience, she could be a very loving horse. She is good for the farrier and enjoys being groomed. Upon her arrival, we found she had a cribbing habit. She has been wearing a cribbing collar at the Ranch and does not seem to mind it. She would benefit from lots of enrichment and pasture time in a new home.
Adoption Fee: $400 Height: Coming Soon! Maximum Carrying Weight (includes tack and rider): 100lbs
