My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet sweet little nugget Mila. She is about 8-months-old or so. She is a petite little girl with lots of love to give, when she is feeling safe and secure.  At first she is a bit shy and timid.  However, once she knows she can trust you, she is "paws" on.  She loves to touch her nose to her foster mom's nose or her forehead.  It's the cutest thing.  She gives a little "boop" touch.  She loves the companionship of the other dogs.  We're pretty sure it is because she feeds off their energy and they help her to feel secure.  Needless to say, she needs to go to a home with other dogs to help her transition into the home.

She is crate-trained, house-trained and sleeps free in the home.    She is a very easy girl and loves ALL dogs, big and small.  She is dog #6 in her foster home with 3 very old GSDs, a 7-yr-old Malinois and a 3-yr-old GSD/Husky mix.  She has also lived with another foster with young children, a GSD and a Chihuaua, and did great there as well. She is so deserving the right home. She has already learned from the "sibling" dogs, when it is time to alert on stranger danger (the Amazon, Fedex and UPS trucks) as well as the nosey squirrels trying to peek in the window from the rail on the deck.  She will make an awesome addition to the right home.  All she asks for is a little patience to let her feel secure and then she is the BEST girl.

All Lani’s Lucky Shepherds receive an individual examination by a local veterinarian, are current on vaccinations, spay or neutered, microchipped, and tested for heart worms and other intestinal worms and parasites. All incoming dogs receive Drontal Plus de-wormer or its equivalent as an extra precautionary step to go above and beyond to keep our rescued dogs healthy. We feed our rescue dogs high quality dog food and supplements while they live in our foster homes. All these costs are paid for by our rescue. You won’t have to pay for these normal costs or bother with the headaches of having to take your new dog to a vet for all these procedures.

We strongly suggest that you complete the adoption application process before choosing a dog from our web page. Most of the dogs on this web page will have approved adopters already looking at them. We get new dogs on a regular basis. The application process can take a couple of weeks depending on your schedule. You will have access to all of our available dogs once you are approved to adopt a rescue dog. Please visit www.luckyshepherds.com for more information. Please note that we only serve the Greater Houston area. We do not adopt our dogs to homes outside of the Houston and its neighboring areas.

More about this rescue

Lani’s Lucky Shepherds volunteers are dedicated to saving as many German Shepherds in the Greater Houston Metro area as humanly possible - based on current resources of available foster homes, the rate at which we can find suitably matched adoptive homes, and of course, financial resources for veterinary care.

Lani’s Shepherds mostly come from animal shelters where they are awaiting euthanasia. All of these Shepherd Dogs need loving, forever homes and families to call their own. We have several GSDs available for adoption and we regularly take in more Shepherds under our wings and into our Rescue Program, increasing the numbers of dogs available for adoption. Whenever we can, we also work with other dog rescue groups in Texas and nationwide to help ensure the safety and security of these wonderful animals.
