My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi I'm Stella, and I'm looking for a new home where I can be loved and become part of the family.  My foster wanted to tell you a little about me so here it is - "Stella loves to spend time with us, go in the pool, jump hurdles, go for walks and play with her toys. She is a wonderful girl!".  My foster family found me at a local gas station and I love being in a family environment. I'm searching for a loving family where I can be  their number one and given all the  attention I need. I'd probably do OK with older kids (I might knock a smaller child down since I'm a large, active puppy) and kitties if they can put up with my puppy antics. My foster is away from home a lot and has not been  able to be given the attention I so crave and I go to a boarding kennel when all I really want is to be home with my family.  I would love a family that has experience with working dogs, especially German Shepherds who understands the training needed for a young working dog puppy. I've started that training, but you will need to continue giving me lots of gentle guidance until I perfect all those big dog things, like how to behave in a house, how to walk on a leash without pulling, and all those verbal commands every dog should know.  I may even treat people with rough play or decide that a new pair of shoes or a table leg would make a great chew toy, so a lot of appropriate toys should be in my future. The good news is that with the right training and LOTS of love, I'll be the best addition to your family ever and your best bud.

If you are interested in her, please send an email to SCP! Applications can be found on our website at secondchancepets.org under the "Forms" tab. Please complete and return to us for review!  All dogs typically show on Saturdays at the Petco in Clear Lake as well. 2410 Bay Area Blvd near Space Center.

Adopter for this dog must reside in the immediate Houston/Galveston area and be at least 25 years old. A home visit may be required prior to this dog going to any home. The adoption fee for a dog is $190 (or $245 for puppies). All dogs are microchipped, on heartworm protection, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and treated for fleas.

Since all our dogs are in foster homes, an individual dog may not be at our weekly Adoption Event due to conflict with a foster's schedule. If you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please send an email to scpdogworld@gmail.com so that the Dog Coordinator can let you know if the dog will be at the Saturday Adoption Event at Petco. If you just want to meet some great dogs looking for their forever home, please come visit with us on Saturday!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters must complete an application and SCP volunteers can help adopters identify cats and dogs that will fit best in their homes. SCP adoption counselors review the applications, conduct in-person interviews and discuss pet care responsibilities with potential adopters. SCP checks applicants' vet references and may conduct a home visit at its discretion. So that the best interests of the pet are served, SCP reserves the right to refuse an adoption to anyone. The adoption fee starts at $110 for cats ($175 for two cats), $190 for dogs and $245 for puppies.

SCP tries to ensure that all pets are healthy at the time of adoption. All are examined by veterinarians when they enter the program. All are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, tested/treated for parasites and disease (such as heartworms, fleas, feline leukemia and FIV) as needed. Cats are vaccinated for FVRCP and FeLV. Dogs are vaccinated for DHLPP and Corona virus. Animals are kept in foster homes to minimize exposure to disease and to help them be well-adjusted. It is the policy of SCP that no cat or dog may be sent to a permanent home before it is fully vetted, including spay or neuter. All of our rescued animals are microchipped.

Go meet their pets

SCP does not have a shelter or an office location. The rescued pets, volunteers, fosters, and adopters who comprise SCP come from all over the Galveston Bay area (mainly north Galveston and south Harris counties). Our adoptable animals are fostered and loved in volunteer homes until a permanent home is found.

SCP has cats and dogs available for adoption every Saturday (cats 10:30-2:30 and dogs 11:00-2:00) at the Petco store in Clear Lake (2410 Bay Area Boulevard, Houston, TX 77058 - corner of Bay Area and Space Center). A few cats may also be seen during the week in the condos at this Petco location.
