My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Yuca was brought in by her previous owner on January 15, 2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Yuca is a sophisticated lady who knows what she likes: a cozy spot near you on the couch or bed (but not too close, thank you very much), some lively string toy sessions, and a well-timed Churu treat to keep her spirits high. Diagnosed with suspected feline asthma, Yuca's health is well-managed with a twice-daily inhaler dose around mealtimes-because even divas need a little TLC. Yuca appreciates a steady routine and a family that respects her boundaries. While she's not one for excessive petting marathons, Yuca enjoys the occasional head rub when the mood strikes, and she's happy to spend her days napping, exploring, or engaging in string-chasing escapades. She'll charm your guests with her polite sniff-and-ignore approach and keep you company without cramping your personal space. Yuca is a chatterbox when she's hungry (or just feeling chatty) and will meow her way into your heart-and the kitchen. Her food preferences? Dry food with small pellets, wet food with shreds or chunks, and zero tolerance for pâté. She'd thrive in a home with older kids who can keep her entertained without overstepping her comfort zone. If you're looking for a calm yet playful roommate who demands little but delivers a lot in personality, Yuca might just be your gal.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
