Hi, I'm Ellen, a 1.5-year-old Chihuahua mix with a shy and sensitive heart. The world can feel big and overwhelming for me, and the shelter is a scary place. I'm looking for a calm, quiet home where I can take my time to feel safe and build trust at my own pace. I'm not the type to run up for attention-in fact, I'd rather you let me come to you when I'm ready.

I've made some wonderful doggy friends here, and having a confident, calm dog by my side really helps me feel braver. While it's not a requirement, I'd be much happier in a home with a canine buddy to show me the ropes and help me come out of my shell. A safe and secure yard would be perfect for me too, giving me space to relax and adjust on my terms. If you're patient and have a lot of love to give, I know we could make a great team. Come to Woods in SLO to meet me, any day from 12-4pm!

If you are interested in adopting an animal, please visit our shelter and spend time with the animals. Upon application approval the adoption will be processed.

Puppies (under 5 months of age): $200
Dogs (5 months - 7 years): $150
Dogs (7+ years): $100

Kittens (under 5 months of age): $150
Cats (5 months - 7 years): $80
Cats (7+ years): $65

Woods Humane Society, Inc. is a nonprofit, privately funded organization dedicated to the humane care of unwanted animals in San Luis Obispo County. Our Staff, volunteers, and board of directors are dedicated to upholding our Mission and preserving the welfare of our present and future animals.

While we cooperate with the State Humane Association of California, the American Humane Association, and The Humane Society of the United States, Woods does not receive financial support from them. Only 20% of our revenues to care for the animals are generated by service fees, the other 80% is generated from fund-raising events, grants, wills, and mainly community donations.

Woods Humane Society is proud to be a leader among the nation’s humane organizations. Thanks to loyal and broad-based community support, and the diligent efforts of our dedicated staff and volunteers, Woods placement rate averages 97%, an outstanding achievement.
