My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

TOAST arrived in rescue just in time for New Year’s celebrations from the Fort Hope Northern community. He previously had an owner which shows in his lovely calm personality. He’s neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and been given a clean bill of health by his vet. We have no knowledge of his parents so his breeds are just a guess based on what we figure he looks like. He’s full grown so we know that’s the size he’ll be give or take a pound or two. He’s a relatively calm dog and is very sweet with people.
TOAST is house trained and crate trained. He sleeps well in his crate at night and will also take naps in there during the day. He walks well on his leash but would benefit from some training in that direction. He enjoys playing with his dog toys and also having a bone to gnaw on. He’s fostered in a home with 2 female dogs and they get along really well so would suit a home with another one. He has done well with all the dogs he’s met on his walks except that is, an unneutered male that he met. He became very vocal with him and wanted to be dominate but there were no issues seeing as both dogs were leashed. He’s not a fan of puppies and doesn’t appreciate their puppy antics around him.
TOAST would love to have an active family that likes to go on adventures, long walks and hikes in the woods. He can be stubborn as he knows what he wants and he is also a counter surfer. His foster is working on this with him and she said he’s getting better and she also makes sure she doesn’t leave any food laying around for him to get his paws on. He’s in a foster home with a very dog savvy 5yr old and he’s very gentle around her so would suit a home with children but they should be aged 6 and up. He does require a fenced yard so he can play outside and run around safely.
We strongly recommend that his new owner meet with a trainer to do some fine tuning with him and work on his leash skills. It will help to form a bond with him and his new owner plus turn him into an all round great dog.
If TOAST sounds like a dog that will fit into your family then please submit an adoption application to meet him.

Additional adoption info

Dogs: $750 (as of March 2024)
Cats: $250
The adoption process involves a brief application for the pet you are interested in. We will review your application and if you appear to be a good match for the pet, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that is successful we then do a vet reference check. If all goes well we will then set up a meet and greet for you and anyone else living in the home including any resident dogs with the pet. We then ask you to go home and contemplate your decision on adopting the pet and let us know your decision within 24hrs of meeting the pet. If applicable we will then move forward with the adoption at a mutually agreed upon time.

Go meet their pets

We only set up meet and greets with our animals once an adoption application has been submitted. We do occasionally have meet and greets with our animals at Global Pet Foods in the Barrie area.

You can check out the available pets on our rescuegroups website or on our rescue Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We’re a small rescue with a big mission to save animals in our Northern communities, local Pounds and owner surrenders (under certain circumstances.) We’re located in Barrie, Ontario and we serve the area of Simcoe County and within a two hour radius of the Barrie area.
Our intakes are placed in loving foster homes until they’re assessed, vetted including vaccines, microchip and a spay/neuter (if over 6 months of age) before they leave the rescue to be adopted. Female puppies are spayed at 6 months of age and males 8 months of age.)
We’re always looking for additional foster homes as we can only do intakes if we have foster homes for them to go into.
