My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Tonka!

Tonka is a striking 3-year-old, 100-pound brindle Cane Corso who was found as a stray without a chip. Initially fearful, Tonka has been making great progress and is starting to show his polite side, complete with basic commands and moments of charm. This big guy may have a tough exterior, but he’s a gentle giant in the making for the right person.

Like any good Cane Corso, Tonka is equally majestic and a little quirky—think of him as a heavyweight teddy bear with a dash of “grumpy old man” when he’s feeling cornered. He needs an owner familiar with the breed who understands his unique personality. With patience and experience, Tonka is sure to continue blossoming into a loyal, well-mannered companion.

To learn more about Tonka, visit shelter.org. You can schedule a meet-and-greet or stop by to meet him on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Don’t miss your chance to bring home this magnificent, slightly goofy giant!

All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months).    All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control. Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

*The shelter is currently open for adoptions by appointment only. Please email us at adoptycas@gmail.com if you are interested in adopting.
For other shelter services, please call us at (530) 668-5287*

To adopt you must have a photo ID and proof of your current address. If not on your ID then bring in a bill with your name and your current address. If you rent you must provide a lease clearly stating the pet policy or provide a name and phone number for your landlord so that we may confirm the pet policy. If you own your home you may provide a mortgage statement or property tax bill for proof.

You must be 18 years or older to adopt.

If you wish to adopt a dog and have other dog(s) at home, please bring them with you to the shelter so that they may meet. Even if your dog is wonderful with other dogs, many of the dogs at the shelter have come in as strays so we have no history on them and need to be sure they get along with your pet(s).

If you have any other questions, please go to www.yolocountysheriff.com or call the shelter for more information.
