Asher l’Extraordinaire, named during the excitement of the 2024 Paris Olympics, carries the torch for his namesake, USA gymnastics champion, Asher Hong. Athletic and fearless, Asher l’Extraordinaire will vault right into your heart with a perfect 10. Asher loves to chill and lie around looking amazing in his bold stripes, super soft fur and a floofy tail (that could win a medal all by itself…it really is that stunning). He knows his name and will answer with short meow when he gets eye contact.
His sweet and languid looks are deceiving as he can suddenly explode into a leap after a proffered airborne toy on a stick. He will grab it mid-air and flip over on his back and twist with poetic grace to heed the call of his leopard ancestors. He will often suffer the embarrassment of being picked up and kissed. He prefers to choose his own snuggle time and will spring into your lap and land as if he is weightless. He sticks that landing with precision and tosses a sweet look into your eyes and he settles down for his accolades.
Born: 5/2/2024
Background and Description: Asher has not been around children and currently prefers the feline company of his mom and sisters over other kitties. After a slow introduction, he plays well with others and shares the front door Squirrel TV without rancor. He really likes our sweet, big Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix and heeds proper boundaries with our small rat terrier. Keen interest he has in the big dog as she has soft fur like his mama. Asher’s mom, Lee “Mama Lee-Lee,” a small, smart, long-haired tuxedo kitty found refuge for Asher and his two siblings in the parking garage at the UNT Health Science Center. The kittens were taught that safety from predators, cars, (and humans who came too close) was a quick scurry into the undercarriage of the electric carts plugged in on the first floor. A cat mom who had adopted her first fur baby from Meowtown was leaving the gym at the Texas Health Science Center one evening. She had recently graduated and was soon to leave to begin her residency in another state. Walking to her car, she spotted the little family in the parking garage. That feline family won the lottery that night as that med student and her med student friends made it their mission to get them safe and cared for.
