My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This good, sweet girl is all about playing and YOU! If you want to do something, she wants to do something. If you want to snuggle, she wants to snuggle. If you want to play with toys, she wants to play with toys. If you want to learn things, she wants to learn things.
Georgia is described by our staff as a sweetheart, bubbly, adorable and soft, as in velvety soft to the touch. Sometimes rowdy, sometimes jumpy, sometimes bouncy, sometimes silly, but ALWAYS into her human compatriot, no matter her mood.

She came to us from a shelter in New Jersey where she had been surrendered due to life changes with her owner. She caught a trainer’s eye who was helping in the shelter with her high energy and friendly personality. She seemed comfortable in new environments and her drive for play and toys was high. All the things we look for in the dogs we train... however, when we did x-rays on her joints, a small spot of arthritis showed up on her elbow. That is the reason she is not continuing with our training which is very high impact and the reason she is now looking for a new low-impact career path or an active family home.

She is a young girl with plenty of potential to do all kinds of things as long as they don’t include jumping off tall ladders and rubble piles and such. She might love to do a low-impact sport with her person...like nosework or rally or ??? She might love to do a job other than urban search and rescue. She might enjoy a partner who takes her to the beach and then let’s her snuggle up after in the car with her favorite blanket (she loves blankets and stuffies). She also might enjoy the company of another dog in a home – she’s done well and had fun in playgroups with other dogs.

As playful and energetic as she can be, she also has an off switch and loves attention and affection. She is a people pleaser in the most pleasant way! If that person is you—you are one lucky dog!

More about this rescue

We are a national training center for search and rescue dogs where we professionally train and then pair talented dogs with fire department handlers at no cost to them. Dogs that do not continue with search dog training (for a variety of reasons) are career changed or available for adoption into pet homes as part of our Lifetime Care Program. This program ensures that once rescued, these dogs never need to be rescued again.

Once we find an adoptive family for our extraordinary dogs, we train the canine and the family, stay in touch with the household, and act as the dog’s advocate for life, making sure that he or she is receiving excellent care in a happy, healthy environment.

The program ensures that every dog in the SDF family has a wonderful life and is in no risk of re-entering the shelter system. This is SDF’s unwavering commitment.
