My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our little bold Colt is looking for his forever home! This wild young guy kind of reminds of us of a young powerhorse... a colt if you will! Colt is only 65lbs, but has a biiiiiig personality!

Colt is an energetic, young, happy go lucky guy who wants to be included in every adventure! He is a 0 to 100 kind of guy - likes to snuggle up on a cozy bed with his people and snore, and then likes to move full speed onto the next thing to do! Colt needs to work on his off-switch and calming down faster after waking up and coming in from walks, as he has been known to enthusiastically slide on the hardwood floors as a repercussion of his top-speed antics! We've been keeping him on leash for the first 10 minutes, then he's a calm boy who can navigate the house at a normal pace.

Colt came from a very unstable, negligent household who evidently did not spend much time on training or structure. Despite his rocky upbringing, Colt is a very happy and affectionate boy who loves everyone that he meets! He is very enthusiastic and likes to jump up, give kisses and lean on people for affection. Colt is working on keeping 4 on the floor and receiving affection calmly. He's making a lot of progress, but every now and again needs a reminder.

Colt can be great friends with other dogs, but would do best with proper introductions. He can come in fast and show tense body language when meeting new dogs, but with slow introductions loves to engage in appropriate play. He is high energy and enjoys the company of other happy-go-lucky or confident dogs! Colt can be too much for insecure or small breeds, and will keep advancing and be pushy if they show fearful behaviour. He is best matched with calm, passive dogs, and generally leaves them alone. He requires a home without small animals, and responsible owners who will not let him roam off leash, visit dog parks, or put him in situations that set him up for failure. He is a bulldog through and through, and is looking for a bulldog experienced home that understands and respects the breed.

Colt does have some resource guarding around food with other dogs, but not with people. Eating and getting treats is best done separately for him. He has been fine receiving hand fed kibble beside his foster brothers, but can be possessive over dropped kibble. Best to just keep resources separate.

Colt loves food and loves to please, and follows commands well! He knows sit, down, paw, "place", go to crate on command, and knows to sit at all doors. He is working at duration during training, and not jumping up out of excitement. Colt does have a stubborn streak, but positive reinforcement is very effective - he will do anything for food! Colt is looking for a forever home who will continue his training to help him become the best version of himself!

Outside, Colt is very happy and playful! He is a high energy boy who would love dog sports like canicross! He needs a lot of work on his leash skills - he knows he's a strong boy, and he sure loves adventure! He hasn't been too interested in fetch or playing with toys independently for more than a few seconds, but prefers to play when his people are involved. He loves bones and kongs, but hasn't quite figured out toys like kibble filled roller-balls.

Colt does very well holding the "place" command. Structure will be really important in his new home to tap into his off-switch and help him relax. Once he's calm, he loves a little couch snuggle and resting his head on his people! This big love bug loves belly rubs, kisses and just being beside his people. He is incredibly affectionate and wins over everybody that he meets!

Colt is being fostered in Flamborough, Ontario with 3 male neutered dogs. His best friend is another young big pushy happy-go-lucky balanced bulldog who he can play with, but he is also respectful of his passive and frail senior golden retriever brother's space. When Colt first arrived he would posture and show tense intimidating body language with his other foster brother who is insecure and does not like new intact dogs, but his foster parents kept him on leash to ensure space and advocate for both dogs, and now they are neutral/passive around each other.

More about this rescue

Molson's Foster Friends was started by a long time foster mom who branched out on her own to assist overcrowded shelters in Southern Ontario.
We are a small foster based team in Flamborough helping pups find their perfect forever match one pup at a time!

We are very focused on finding great matches and making sure that the adoption is the right fit for both the dog and the applying family. Our adoption process can be longer because we care about perfect matches! It's important for us to get to know you too know exactly what you're looking for so that the adoption isn't stressful for you or your future pup- we aim for happy tails!

All of our dogs come with age-appropriate vaccines, spayed or neutered, microchipped, dewormed and have had a 4DX snap test to confirm no tick/mosquito borne illnesses.

Please email molsonsfosterfriends@gmail.com for more information about us or our adoptables! We aim to answer all emails within 48 hours- communication is important to us!
